What are the dangers of the internet?  Are the parents in the video Justified in their concerns?   How can parents be more vigilant and protect their children?

There can be many dangers in the internet, teens and children may be seeing things they are not supposed to. Children may be cyberbullied, tracked by predators. This can cause a great fright to parents. Teens may also be talking to people they don't even know. Many children do not know that many predators can be disguised as someone they are not. 

Parents have been scared that their children can be going on the wrong path. Parents have the right to be concerned, but not to over due it. Some parents are too vigilant and others are not. Children get angry at their parents when they are trying to keep track of them. some parents in the video were out of control. 

For example the mother who ruined her sons high school reputation got out of hand. She could have due the punishment a different way. In my opinion our parents have told us what is right, and wrong. we are aware not to talk to strangers. I wouldn't kill myself i think it's a scary feeling. 

Journal#52

Last week was Thanksgiving, what are you thankful for?  Please describe your week off.  Did you go anywhere or do anything significant these last nine days off? What was your favorite part of this mini vacation?.

On Thanksgiving I was thankful for all my family and friends and everything I have. I was also thankful for my fourteen birthday. I had a great time on my birthday, I had lots to eat. My mom made lasagna, two hams, and a lot of other food. I did not want to look gluttony, but the food looked so good. 

I still ate a lot not excessive eating, but a lot. At the end I was so full I couldn't even move. On the other few days of the mini vacation I stayed home. I had to finish biology and a english project. I was also thankful of not having excessive work on the week. Although I didn't travel I did get to sleep in. 

My favorite part of the mini vacation was my birthday. I got to spend time with my family and enjoy being together. I also chose this because of all the yummy food I ate. The best part of the day was playing volleyball with my cousins. I had a great time and hope i have another mini vacation. 

Journal #51

Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey, not the bald eagle, to be our country’s symbol.  If you had the opportunity to help decide on our nation’s symbol, would you choose the turkey or the bald eagle?  Or would you choose a different animal all together? Justify your answer with examples.(Use mascot)

If I had the opportunity of choosing wether the nation's symbol was the eagle or the turkey. I would choose the eagle because the turkey is ugly, and thanksgiving would not be a good day to celebrate the  nations bird. We would have all ate them and there would be none left. Turkey's are not really a bird that acts smart. 

The bald eagle is good because the it's intelligent , dignified and we don't eat it. The bald eagle shows bravery and courage that is a good thing to represent the nation. It's a good thing we can't eat our nations bird, that would show weakness and no power. The United States have shown great strength and that is why we take care of these birds. 

Our high school's mascot is an eagle, I'm glad it isn't something that shows weakness. For example some high schools have a dog, I know they're cute but not for a mascot. A mascot has to show what the high school is made of. I wouldn't change the mascot at all it's perfect. 

 

Journal #50

You are the network administrator for a rather large company. You have a young family and need your job to support them. As part of your responsibility as a network administrator is to monitor the emails for the organization. Usually this just means occasionally allow through emails for staff members that have been accidentally blocked by the spam filters.

One day you get a helpdesk request from a staff member asking for an email to get released. Normally it’s standard procedure except this time the request has come from the wife of a very good friend of yours. You recognize the name on the helpdesk request so quickly attend to the problem. As part of the procedure you need to manually open up the email to ensure that it isn’t spam, so you do and you discover that it certainly isn’t spam. You find that it’s actually an email to your friends wife from her lover. You scan the rest of the contents of the email and there is no doubt that she has been having an affair for some time now.

You release the email, but you can’t decide what to do. You’re initial reaction is to call your friend up and tell him about the email, however you quickly realize that company policy is very strict about revealing the contents of confidential emails of staff members regardless of the contents and unless someone’s life is in immediate danger, under no circumstances are you permitted to reveal the information.

In any case you know that revealing this information presents great risk, because even if you don’t do it directly, there is a good chance that the dots will be joined somewhere along the line and you will be found out. However you feel that by not telling you friend that you are aiding his wife get away with adultery and this troubles you greatly.

What I would do if I were the friend and found out that the wife was cheating on the husband, I would be shocked. As my job to be in charge of reviewing the emails, I would have preferred the email to be a spam than a message that would affect my best friend. It's harder to tell your best friend something that would really hurt them.To say their wife has an affair would be against your privileges at your work. I would think it's the right thing to tell my friend but the wife would think I am in her business. 

If I did tell the husband about his wife having an affair, I would think they would have problems and I wouldn't want to be the cause of their divorce. On the other side if I don't say anything I can live a calm life with my job. I know that wouldn't be a good friend to not tell him when I found out. But, I don't want to look for trouble. 

What i could do is not say anything and set up a trap for the wife without her knowing. The trap would consider the husband finding the wife red handed. That way it doesn't have to do with my job. The best part is that I told my best friend without him noticing. The plan might take a long  time to prepare, but you help your friend,  

Journal #49

What is the meaning of the phrase "You reap what you sow".  What does it mean to you? Give examples to support your position. Is it the same as Karma?(Use sow)

This phrase means that the problems you got yourself into were caused by your actions. I wouldn't sow anything till I am completely sure of what I am doing. What this phrase means to me is that whatever I do, something good or bad may come out of it. I will need to watch out for the bad consequences. Sometimes you can be aware of what you are doing, and other times you can't be sure. 

I have made mistakes in life that i have to sow myself out of. For example when I have a bad grade on something I try to get a better score the next time. We should all work on making changes, especially if you've sown to deep. Some people have stopped trying to get out their problems. We should all keep going in life and fix our mistakes. 

Although some people might think it is the same thing as karma it's not. There is a big difference between you getting yourself into something, and something just happening. The phrase represents someone getting themselves into trouble. Karma is something that just happens that you make no effect on. 

Journal #48

Do you know any veterans?  Did you thank them for their service?  How did you celebrate Veterans Day?(Use honor)

Sadly I don't know any veterans, but I do know that they are the people who serve our country. By serving our country I mean they have help other people. For example soldiers or marines, they have fought or are fighting for our country. They protect us and represent us at war. They all risk their lives so that we can be save and happy. 

We honor the dead and alive veterans on Veterans Day. This day is given as a day off for all of their hard work. My family and I celebrate this day by making a BBQ. I like to spend time with my family and enjoy life. I think of the veterans families who might think the same things. 

There are so many ways to celebrate Veterans Day. For example the President celebrates by giving a speech. The speech shows how much he cares and wishes the best for every veteran. The president also gives a nice flower arrangement that is a symbol of his gratitude. Over all Veterans Day is a nice day to celebrate. 

  

Journal #47

Describe your future plans and goals? How will you accomplish them?  Are you on track to reach these goals?  What are some obstacles that will impede fulfilling these objectives?

My goals are to be doing good at school and get my diploma. I plan to do something great with my life to support my family. I will like to support them in any way I can. I know that I can set higher goals for myself and not set a limit. Although at some times it seems hard I need to look at the bright side. 

I will not let anything impede me from reaching my goal. I will complete all of my work and get good grades. I know I have to try hard and get good results on my exams. Tests are my little enemies, and I need to over come them. 

Some other plans I have are to get to a UC, that is my dream. Then I want to work on my dream career which is a Digital Medical Sonographer. This career requires patients and lot's of experience. After my career I will want to work to get a high position. Goals don't stop in life, they continue. 

Journal #46

November is "National Peanut Butter Lover's Month." A large number of students today are allergic to peanut butter. Some classrooms and/or schools have even become "Peanut Free" zones. Do you think this is fair for the students are not allergic to peanut butter? Explain your thinking.  Are you allergic to anything? What measures do you do to avoid contamination?

I think it is fair for children that are not allergic to peanut butter because we all need to think about the health of others. If I were allergic to peanut butter I wouldn't want it around. It would be a big temptation that I could become even more sick. We all need to look at different perspectives. We can not just focus on our own, it wouldn't be fair. 

Now if we look at the people that are not hypoallergenic to peanut butter, they would think they have the right to eat it. Yet, if they put themselves in other shoes they would think differently. The school also needs to put rules that can tell the students to eat peanut butter at home so that we can all be safe. Although I think no one is allergic to peanut butter. 

I don't think I am allergic to anything, or maybe I haven't discovered it. I would try to stay away from anything that would make me itchy or look weird. I have a friend though that is allergic to nuts. She can't touch, nor eat them. I always try to not eat nuts around her because it is disrespectful.   

Journal #45

What age do you think children should be punished for, and how should it be done?  Is there an age when people are too old to be punished for mistakes they make? if so, what age and why?   What is the biggest mistake you have done?   Did you get punished?   Discuss other possible consequences for your actions?(Use ramification)

I think children should be punished the every time they do something wrong. This will show discipline and not create little monsters. Even though I am still considered as a little kid, I still consider that I should be disciplined. I do not like seeing rude kids, it gives me chills down my spine because I know they are the next generation. If the whole world were full of these kinds of people it would be a disaster. 

I also think that no one is too old to get punished because everyone makes mistakes. Old people still get grumpy and do things they are not supposed to. Yet mostly, children are who behave bad, they disrespect parents and teachers.I have done big mistakes in my life as well. My parents have given me a spank or two. I know it's for my own good although it hurts. 

A mistake I have made was to take my mom's make up without asking. This was when I was ten years old. I picture myself being small and not knowing what I am doing. At my age right now I know that if I want something, I need to ask first. My ramification was to not watch T.V for two weeks, although there are many more punishments like a spank, or my phone taken away.    

Journal #44

Write about the places you have lived.  Describe them and explain why you like it or dislike those places.  Predict where you will live in 10 years.  What kind of home do you want?

The places i have lived in my life has only been one house, but its mostly an apartment. My parents have lived her for 15 years. All the days of my life I have seen the same house. I can't imagine myself living anywhere else. Along the way i have had my siblings, now we are a family of five and our apartment is really small. 

I like my home, the only thing that really gets me is the fact that it is getting small. I do not like crowded places, I will like to live in another house but in the same area. I love the city of Bell, it is calm and peaceful. If I were to get a new abode, I will want the same area I am in and my own room. I wouldn't wish for anything else. 

In the next 10 years of my life I think I will be living in my own little apartment going to a University.I will still go visit my family in their new house I hope. I would imagine myself living by myself and learning to be independent. I think a apartment will be a good start, but if I were to get a house I would want it to be in a nice area where I grew up in. But, I need to start worrying about the present more than the future.  

Journal #43

What would happen if you could fly whenever you wanted? When would you use this ability?  What if you could only use this ability at night or if every time you used it you had to sleep for 24 hours straight. How often would you fly?(Use avian)

If I could fly whenever I wanted I would fly to school and back. I think it would be a great experience to view everything as an ant. I would also fly to farther places since there are no stops you have to take. I might even fly in the night, it might also be safe so no one can see you. The night is also fresh and peaceful, and I could also use it when I want to get away from things. 

As an avian I think I could only use the power to fly during the day. If I had to sleep 24 hours straight to be able to fly I would rarely use the power. If I had to charge my power I would charge during the weekend. I would only use my power once or twice a month. The reason I would charge during the weekend is that I do not go to school. 

Yet, sleeping all day would be really boring. I would want the power to be permanent or that theres a other way to charge it. For example eating fruits or a drink. That would be easier for me to charge. Also if my family were to find out they would be scared or try to get rid of it. I think the ability to fly should stay with birds.   

Journal # 42

If you had only five minutes to think up a nickname for yourself and knew everyone would use it for years, what would you pick? What would you pick for your best friend?  Why?   What about your teachers?  Please explain your reasons?  (Use alias)

If I only had five minutes to choose alias for myself I will choose something that really describes me. Well, I could describe myself as happy, love volleyball, and I love the colors blue and purple.Well my full name is Jaqueline, but the best name everyone calls me is Jackie. Mostly because it's shorter and easier to say. I am also used to it all of my family and friends cal me that, and rarely Jaqueline. The only time I hear Jaqueline is when a teacher is talking to me, or my mom or dad are really mad at me. 

If I would choose a name for my best friend it would be her own name, I can't find another name to fit her. A best friend will always be remembered, I can only remember my best friend by their name. If I were to pick a name for my teachers I would go with their appearance. For example nerds because they know everything about a subject. Especially when it comes to math and science, when i always learn new things. 

I sometimes even wonder how our parents get our names. My mother got my name from an opera, by a famous actress. I feel honored but the same time I wonder if I was named differently. Each year there are different names that are popular, it happens in Hispanic people. For example the use of Maria, Jose, Juan, Guadalupe. I am happy my mom didn't give me such a common name. Nor A weird one.
